Why August?
At the end of August is a good time to trim beech so that the wounds can heal before any risk of frost and at this point the current season’s growth is cut back, encouraging new leaves to emerge.

Check before trimming
It is always prudent to check before trimming that there are no birds nesting. The risk of disturbances is always reduced by trimming at the end of summer, but if there are any birds present, then delay works until a more appropriate time.
