Ukrainian garden of peace
The Ukrainian Peace Garden was created by award-winning designer, Peter Lloyd, whose kind intention is to bring a piece of Ukraine to local Liverpool Ukrainians and visitors to the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
The Liverpool Ukrainian Society contributed to the final design of the garden being as authentic as possible. Valuable information and support in the construction of the project was offered by the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUVV) Liverpool branch and the Big Help Project.
The garden aims to provide a peaceful and verdant place for relaxation and reflection. The Ukrainian influence is found in the sweeping road with strange cobblestones, the scent of traditional medicinal herbs, the tidy vegetable gardens and some artistic mosaic creations. The garden also features a wishing well where the water is represented by living flowers, and there are also two cement chess tables with seating where visitors can enjoy a game of chess away from the noise.
Children from the nearby St Vincent de Paul Catholic Primary School have been involved in creating decorative, contemplative works that will be displayed in the garden. Municipal eco garden groups at Roots in the city, also based in the Baltic Triangle, plant vegetables and herbs in the garden.
The active participation of local Ukrainians and the public of the Baltic Triangle will create an attractive garden in the heart of the city and create greenery that will positively affect the physical and mental state of the public.
